World of Sound and Colour

The Cards I've Been Dealt

The Current Situation

Here's what my townhouse looks like now.

back yard patio front garage garage
foyer front door hall kitchen kitchen

main bath master bedroom master bedroom master bedroom basement
basement basement utility room utility room utility room

I Know What I Like

I like the colour of the master bedroom. It's relaxing, neutral. Anyway, I'm usually only there at night and early in the morning. It could be worse; it could have been white, black or pink.

The foyer bathroom is inoffensive. That doesn't place it firmly in the "like" category, but it's something that doesn't have to change immediately.

The kitchen is fine -- white walls, brown cupboards -- what more could you ask?

And I Don't Like That

I spend most of my time in the basement, but I do two different things there, so it'll be hard to plan, unless I get rid of one of the activities. I think bluish walls would be good for exercise. For work, I'd like a darker colour, like a deep red, green or blue. Den colours. I should probably move my office into one of the spare bedrooms upstairs.

I'd like more blue in my ensuite bathroom. It's too white. Blue walls and white tile for the shower.

I really don't like the beige living room. I have my heart set on a solid green, with an aquarium of orange-yellow-red fish, maybe some white piilars in the corners with urns or metal sculpture or something. Too artsy? Nah.

For the garden, just some bright flowers that don't need much attention at the back.

What is My Soul Colour?

According to the The Complete Book of Colour by Suzy Chiazzari, before doing any decorating, one should determine one's soul colours -- the three colours that are the most pleasing, the most relaxing and the most inspiring. Ooh. That's tough. Green, blue and red. But to be more specific, I tried to make a little chart of my favourite colours. These aren't the exact colours I want, but they're close.

Colour Wheel

What kind of green? Bottle green, evergreen green, hunter green. I'm not big on drab olive or army green. Bright greens look fine for new grass, but I don't want it on my walls.

What kind of blue? I really hate bright sky blue and anything like cyan. It makes me want to puke, especially when it's near something brown. Ocean (dark) and navy blues are good. Royal blue is nice. The colour of faded denim, not too faded, though.

What kind of red? That deep red I associate with English dens, parquet floors, leather chairs and metal-studded tables. Bright red or crimson makes me happy as long as it isn't everywhere. I really dislike magenta, and I'm off maroon. Way off.
